Andrew Lineker was born in November of 1978, and is from a fifth generation pioneer family that settled in Edmonton during the Gold Rush era.
He was born and raised in Edmonton, and is a direct relative to James Gibbons. James Gibbons helped, along with numerous other Pioneer Families to develop the city of Edmonton. Historic Landmarks and Heritage mean a great deal to Andrew.
The Lineker family comes from a long line of military defense for both England and Canada being enlisted with the air force and army. The Linekers' fought in the First, Second & Korean wars including areas from England to Germany and Africa. From this proud tradition, Andrews grandfather's rank is a Major for the P.P.C.L.I. and his uncle was a seargent in the reserves. His great grandfather who fought in both WW1 & WW2 rank was seargent WO2. Numerous uncles were pilots and land troops to the English troops.
For those of you who are into World Cup Soccer, Gary Lineker is indeed related to Andrew. He was a great soccer player turned sports broadcaster for the BBC for awhile.
He is proud of his Canadian and especially Edmontonian heritage and wants to keep the city's heritage alive.
Andrew originally got involved in the political area at the young age of thirteen, when he became involved with the Grant Mitchell campaign for the provincial election. He grew to understand politics at a very early age and also helped in campaigns for Anne McLellan, Judy Bethel, Chris Pearce, Lawrence Decore, Percy Wickman, etc.
He craved political history and investigated every aspect of politics. Not only did he get to know the many different histories of political parties and their platforms, but he actually met with a number of the political leaders on a personal basis. He familiarized himself with the formats of the provincial N.D.P., Liberal, Progressive Conservative and the Preston Manning New Alliance.
He organized a Food Drive during the Christmas Season for the Food Bank and helped raise money for the MS Foundation.
Andrew took petitions for being against Educational Cutbacks and Health Care Cutbacks when the provincial government was wanting to downsize.
Over the years he investigated politics in general at the Provincial Library and the University of Alberta.
This year he worked to raise money for the University of Alberta as well as working towards the commonality goal of raising money for the Shriners Children's Hospitals.
Andrew is a breath of fresh air! He is an intelligent and young creative individual with progressive ideologies, and wants the citizens of Canada to come involved in decision making involving all taxpaying Canadians. He has the background, knowledge and drive to make solid decisions on behalf of all citizens of Canada. He wants your feedback! He wants to work for you!
Andrew ran in the 2010 municipal election, as mayor to give Edmontonians a voice in city hall, and for the first time an option on the ballot.
Andrews' current goals are to raise awareness as to what a true democracy is. A place where all citizens, "meet on the level", meaning that we as citizen have an equal say as to the operations in government. With education of what a true democracy is, Andrew would also like to help raise money for the kidney foundation on behalf of his grandfather Harry William Lineker, and for the Edmonton Humane Society with his deep passion to animals, especially to his Pomerainian puppy, Tutt.
Andrew ran in the 2011 federal election as a parachute candidate in the riding of Red Deer, continuing to give the citizens the voice they deserve in this wonderful country.
